Legal disciplines in the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy

Gubar K. A. Legal disciplines in the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (XVIІ–XVIІІ) For the 400th anniversary of the founding

Presented the characteristics of the level of education of the population in the study period. In article given the brief historical analysis of the need to foundation of the school in the territory of Ukraine and Russia. Described the reasons for establishing theological schools.

Presented the list of sciences taught at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Analyzed the process of transformation from the Kyiv school to Collegium and then Academy. Presented the role of Peter Mohyla in the educational process. Specified role of knowledge of the Latin language for the acquisition of legal knowledge.

Proved that with the help of the Latin language can be defended in court and understand the judicial process. Proved the necessity of introduction of the Latin language in the course teaching science in the KMA.

Presented the characteristics of classes and levels of education in the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. It is proved that the legal discipline is taught in higher theological class.

The analysed of the educational process at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy from its foundation. Found the time and order of implementation science of canon law in system of teaching at the Academy. Analyzed place of canon law among other sciences, given the material for teaching canon law at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Analyzed the role of R. Zaborowski, who introduced the new changes in teaching process and learning process of Academy. He was the first who included the new discipline in to academic courses – canon law. In the second quarter of the eighteenth century, in the general course of education KMA, R. Zaborowski introduced teaching the canon law. Specified the book of canon law, which studied students at the Academy.

Proved that students of KMA acquired skills and knowledge for the legal work. It is in the KMA other than a general educational part, a lot of attention was to solve practical legal issues.

Attention is focused on F. Prokopovich, which offers a Spiritual rules. He offered teaching Puffendorf’s politics in the educational process of KMA. Defined the condition of the teaching of canon law at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Identified changes in title and content of the above mentioned science at all stages of development, from canon law to ecclesiastical law. Analyzed the concept of “Canon Law” and change it over time. Established the interpretation of the term «canon» «canon law», «ecclesiastical law», given historical information about the transformation of the term.

Provides a brief statement about the professors F. Prokopovich and R. Zaborovsky.
