Kyiv Institute of national economy

Mikhnevich L. V. Mykola Vasylenko and the Kyiv Institute of national economy

It was found that the first acquaintance of the scientist with the Kyiv commercial Institute (Kyiv Institute of national economy his successor) it happened in 1910. Then Mykola Prokopovich became a founding member and a fellow of the Society of economists, which was in force at the Institute. His teaching activities in the school started a little later. However, even before the revolution Mykola Prokopovich teacher, and taught in women’s courses, was Privat-docent at the University of St. Vladimir. After 1917, Mykola Vasylenko fruitfully collaborated with a number of higher educational establishments of Kyiv (Ukrainian national University, Kyiv University, Archaeological Institute, Kyiv Institute of law).
Found that giving lectures at the Kyiv commercial Institute N. P. Vasylenko began July 19, 1920. First course of Ukrainian studies, then General doctrine of law, and was subsequently appointed Professor of the history of Western Russian law.
It was found that in Kyiv Institute of national economy Mykola Prokopovich, though not for long, but sold his idea to introduce the study of the history of Ukrainian law at the higher school. Law students in 1920/21, was proposed to study the discipline called ≪History of law of great Russia, Western Russia and Ukraine≫. And in the next year Mykola Vasylenko taught the two disciplines ≪History of Russian law≫ and ≪the History of Western Russian law≫ (with the inclusion of the history of Ukrainian law). The amount of lectures was 4 hours a week on each subject. However, to establish an independent Department of history of Ukrainian law at the law faculty of Kyiv Institute of national economy Mykola Vasylenko failed. In 1922/1923 this year, the course of the history of Western Russian law was repealed.
It is revealed that the notes of his lectures on the history of Western-Russian and
Ukrainian law and the course of history of Russian law prepared for the Kyiv Institute of national economy, has survived to this day. The role of academician in the establishment of University centers of research. Despite very successful pedagogical activity, research work for Mykola Vasylenko was the meaning of life. In Kyiv Institute of national economy he was introduced to the Company’s activities for the learning of national economy and law of Ukraine.  On 10 April 1921 in his meeting, I read a great report on ≪Essays on development of Ukrainian law≫. Mykola Vasylenko shared their experience with young scientists, guided the work of the professorial fellows S. M. Ivanitsky-Vasylenko and P. K. Bontasa.
The article presents interesting facts about the dismissal of academician from the Kyiv Institute of national economy, which occurred with the violation of legal norms, ≪retroactively≫ as an accused in the case of Kyiv regional center of the action.
Separately lit academician attempts to realize his idea of the establishment of the
Department of history of Ukrainian law at the law faculties after his dismissal from the Kyiv Institute of national economy. He headed the Commission for learning the history of the West Russian and Ukrainian law Ukrainian Academy of Sciences has prepared a memo about the need for systematic research of history of Ukrainian law in higher educational institutions. The subject must break the ideological legacy of tsarism, that is the conventional wisdom, ≪that the Ukrainian nation with its cultural (ethnographic, every day, legal) achievements is a reflection of the Russian people≫.
The note was approved by the General meeting Ukrainian Academy of Sciences on 23 February 1925 and in April 1925 was considered in the meeting of the Commission subject to the private law of the Kyiv Institute of national economy. But, unfortunately, it was deemed possible the introduction of a course of history of Ukrainian law as optional, not core. It is established that the attempt to resume the study of the history of Ukrainian law at the law faculty of Kyiv Institute of national economy repeated in October 1928, the academician O. O. Malinowsky. This discipline was even introduced into the curriculum for year 1929/30 But the plan was not implemented. In the autumn of 1930 the law faculty of Kyiv Institute of national economy was abolished.
Key words: Kyiv Institute of national economy, legal education, legal science, history of Western Russian law, history of Ukrainian law.
